USTA Announces New Roles For Staff

United States Trotting Association Executive Vice President and CEO Mike Tanner announced today that T.C. Lane has been named the USTA’s Registrar, Jessica Schroeder has been promoted to the newly-created position of Outreach and Membership Enrichment Coordinator, and Director of Communications Dan Leary will add marketing to his job responsibilities.

Lane, who has held the Registrar’s position on an interim basis since the end of June after his predecessor, Janet Terhune, left for a position at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, will be responsible for the registration process of standardbred horses with the USTA. In his new role, he will also manage the USTA’s member services, the racetrack support and ID technician teams, and supervise Schroeder in her new position.

“We interviewed some very qualified candidates from outside of our organization,” said Tanner in making the announcement, “but in the end found that we had the best person for the job right here on our staff already. T.C.’s experience and knowledge of the industry and his relationships with the people in it, as well as with our staff, will be a great benefit to the USTA as we move into the future.”

Most recently, Lane served as director of officials/tracks and the USTA’s county fair liaison. He joined the USTA as its director of officials in 2002 following a stint as the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association’s representative to Ohio’s county fairs.

In her new role as Outreach and Membership Enrichment Coordinator, Schroeder will oversee the organization’s 'big event' planning and execution for racing and industry events including, Back to the Track, on-site participation at major stakes races like the Hambletonian and Little Brown Jug, plus sales, meetings and conventions. In addition, she will be coordinating new membership initiatives involving communications, benefits and educational events.

“Jessica has been outstanding as both a front-line representative for the USTA and in managing logistics at major races and events,” said Tanner. “Her knowledge and enthusiasm will be great assets in our relationships with membership, partners in the industry and fans.”

In addition, Schroeder will coordinate the organization’s Standardbred Equine Program to promote programs for off-the-track standardbreds and USTA merchandising efforts while continuing to assist county fairs and horsemen’s associations in the promotion of county fair harness racing as she did in her previous position as assistant fair liaison.

Leary, who joined the USTA a little more than a year ago as Director of Communications, will now also direct the USTA’s marketing efforts as Director of Marketing and Communications.
