Chip Dot Com Notches 80th Career Win
With retirement on the horizon, 14-year-old trotter Chip Dot Com reached a significant career milestone in notching his 80th victory on Saturday night at Kawartha Downs.
Driven by Tony Kerwood, Chip Dot Com sat fifth for most of the mile before kicking home to win his ninth race $5,500 claiming assignment by two lengths in 2:01.1 over a 'good' surface rated two seconds slow.
Despite being the oldest in the field of nine with most of his rivals at least seven years younger, Chip Dot Com was the public's favourite and paid $4.40 to win. Pacesetter R Dee Rail, the 73-1 longshot in the field, finished second and second choice All In Gass was third.
The veteran Pine Chip gelding, who has won eight times this year in 31 starts, is owned by trainer Matthew McDonald of Greely, Ont. and Randy Pitt of Ottawa, Ont.
Chip Dot Com has hit the board in half of his 356 career starts while banking $662,753 in purses along the way.
