Planet Hallywood Tops Morrisville Sale
The annual Morrisville College Equine Institute Sale was held Monday in Morrisville, New York, with 152 yearlings going through the auction ring over the course of the day.
The sale topper was hip #160 Planet Hallywood, a colt by Cash Hall out of the mare Spin The Planet. The youngster was consigned by Morrisville Col Equine Inst. and purchased by agent Trond Smedshammer of Allentown, NJ for $45,000. Planet Hollywood has a pair of siblings that have banked in excess of $200,000 – Royal Shyster (1:57.1 - $294,461) and Spin Spanky Spin (1:56.1 - $215,436).
Smedshammer, acting as agent, also purchased hip #116 Royal Marley for $40,000. The colt, who was consigned by Crawford Farms LLC, is a son of RC Royalty-Marquee Nights.
James Lee of South Orange, NJ shelled out $35,000 to purchase hip #81 Royal Sambuca. The son of RC Royalty-Heather Weather, who was consigned by Crawford Farms LLC, is a half-brother to Kendall Blue (1:53.2 - $97,915).
The average price for the 152 yearlings going through the ring Monday was $8,813 compared to last year’s average of $9,456 for the 187 yearlings that went through the sales ring.
