'General' Wins Final Atlantic Series Prelim
General Luckypercy, with Ron Matheson in the bike, won the final preliminary leg of the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series in 1:57.2 at Red Shores Summerside on Sunday.
Matheson sent the six-year-old mare right to the front from the rail in the $4,480 event and cruised through fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:28.1 before holding off the pocket-pulling J K Special, a winner of two prior legs of the series, with first over challenger Private Joke completing the triactor.
General Luckypercy, also a winner of her second leg division, recorded her sixth victory of the season for owners Jodilyn Matheson and Jack Brown. Jackie Matheson is the winning trainer.
In other racing action, the co-featured conditioned event went to Bet The House, in line to Jason Hughes, in an impressive 1:55.4. The pacer was Hughes third winner of the night. War Cry Ranger was second while BJ Cruiser finished third. Bet The House is co-owned by trainer Blaine McKenna, the top trainer at Summerside in 2012, with Gary Arsenault of Miscouche.
Driver Gary Chappell had a driving double on the program. Chappell, who drives for Kwik Kopy in the Drive for Charity promotion, has over $800 raised for the Easter Seals Society.
The Atlantic Aged Mares Series will conclude on Saturday, October 13 at Charlottetown Driving Park.
