West Meadows Meet Begins Sunday
Live harness racing returns to West Meadows Raceway on Sunday, September 16 with a 10-race card beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Canada’s newest harness racing facility is located just west of Regina on Pinkie Road near the Global Transportation Hub.
“Last year was our Grand Opening and it was an overwhelming success. We think crowds will be even bigger this year!” said Jane Grainger, President of West Meadows Raceway. “We built this track so the people of Regina and all of Saskatchewan could continue to experience the thrill of harness racing and its rich agricultural history. It’s a special place, a field of dreams, and a promise to the Saskatchewan harness horsemen that they could have a permanent home to stable and race.
"Harness racing has existed in the Regina area for over 100 years and we’re excited to carry on with this great tradition and plan for its successful future. There’s just nothing like the experience of being up close to the horses as they speed away from the mobile starting gate and cavalry charge down the stretch to the finish.”
There will also be face painting at the track for the kids and fair foods including pizza, ice cream, hot dogs and hamburgers at the concessions provided by Tumblers Pizza.
The WannaBet booth will be on site with a team of experts to help new fans learn to read the program and make their first wagers.
Racing continues on Sunday afternoons up to and including October 7.
