Six For 'Hot Hands' Hughes At The CDP
Things didn’t start out that great for driver Jason Hughes on Thursday at the Charlottetown Driving Park as a result of his sixth-place finish in his second race driving assignment, but things really went his way for the remainder of the 12-race card.
The reinsman racked up a total of six victories throughout the course of the program, and the win parade kicked off in Race 3 with Teddys Place (2:01.1). He wasn’t listed on horses in the next two races, but he was back to victory lane in Race 6 thanks to a front-stepping score with Block Party (1:58.4.).
Hughes came right back with Toxic Terror (2:00) in Race 7 and then again in Race 9 with Last Art On Deck (2:00.1). Rambaranonbroadway (1:59.3) rallied for a narrow triumph in Race 10 to give the sulky-sitter his fifth win of the night, and Le Fugeur (1:57) pushed that nightly number to six as a result of his victory in Race 11.
The Stratford, PE horseman has racked up 58 wins this season, just seven wins shy of matching his personal best for a single season. He accumulated 65 wins during the 2008 campaign. He’s also managed to push his purse earnings past the $100,000 mark for the third time in his career, and he’s less than $7,000 shy of surpassing his best-ever season in the earnings department. He accrued $111,073 in purse earnings during the 2009 season.
