No Liberal Majority In Ontario
Any hopes for Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty to form a majority provincial government by virtue of two byelections were denied by the people of Kitchener-Waterloo.
New Democrat Catherine Fife was victorious in K-W for the NDPs, winning the large, urban riding for the first time in the party's history garnering over 40 per cent of the vote with PC Tracey Weiler in the runner-up spot with 30 per cent. Liberal Eric Davis finished third with 23 per cent.
In Vaughan, Liberals held onto the riding vacated by Greg Sorbara as Steven Del Duca won with 50 per cent approval.
As a result, Premier McGuinty must still get support from opposition MPPs in order for legislation to pass. Not including Speaker Dave Levac, the Liberals go back to holding 52 seats in the legislature, the Tories now have 36 (down from 37) and the New Democrats are up one to 18.
Catherine Fife of the NDP
Catherine Fife of the NDP should be thankful the people of KW didnt "abstain" from voting. Are you listening Andrea?
I guess the Fiberal candidate
I guess the Fiberal candidate in K/W (Eric Davis) is out of luck.
What I can't understand is how the voters could put the new chap (Steven Del Duca) in at Vaughan. Do the voters not read the papers??
I realize that the per capita earnings in Vaughan are higher than in K/W.Yet, the Vaughan voters have more to lose in their riding and what they are saying is,"Yes, we have more money but our leader will take care of us."
Don't get me wrong--I do like the election rules. However, Vaughan voters could be asking in a year from now," What happened to our leader? We all thought we were in good hands with DAD. We are now being treated like the horse people."
I for one would not waste my vote on a party that treats the horsemen with disdain.
By voting in the Liberal rep, are the voters saying they approve of ORNGE and ehealth? They have just said by each Liberal vote that all is forgiven re ORNGE. and, the OPP coppers are not likely to find anything in their hunt for wrong doers of large Liberal companies.
But the real people being hurt now are the horsemen. It must take a lot of guts to wake up in the morning, see the Missus beside them and wonder how much they can spend this weekend on groceries.

If you live in the riding
If you live in the riding then you have the right to vote for who you want. You can't understand how Vaughn voted in Del Duca. Perhaps his platform appealed to the majority.I'm sure there were issues other than horse racing.
Hold to hope...we still have
Hold to hope...we still have the Auditor General to investigate the OLG gaming modernization strategy. Also, now that our politicians are more educated by the Horse Industry, they will make it more difficult for the Liberals to pass legislation.
