Evil Eva Delivers In Mares Open
It looked like a dangerous combination on paper before the start of the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Batavia Downs Wednesday night as Evil Eva was starting off the rail with leading driver Shawn Gray in the sulky.
And it proved to be a lethal combination on the track as well as Evil Eva ($3.50) and Gray left little doubt who was the best, going wire-to-wire in 1:55.2 to register an easy three and three-quarter length victory.
Evil Eva zoomed right to the top and Gray just sat back and enjoyed the ride from there, using fractions of :29, :58, and 1:26.1 in coasting to her eighth win of the season in 21 starts. Evil Eva has only finished out of the money in four tries in 2012.
Youre Too Funny (Jack Flanigen), the winner of last week's Open Pace, didn't have any answers and finished a distant second while The Mistress (Dan Noble) took third.
With the win, Evil Eva, owned by Mo Coo Inc. of Merrick, New York and Jonathan Klee Racing of Mineola, New York, increased her seasonal winnings to $58,885. Alicia Gray conditioned the winner.
The action continues at Batavia Downs on Friday night with another 12-race card scheduled for 6:25 p.m. The feature will come early in the program, the second race, as the Fillies and Mares Open II trotters go to the post for $7,200. Sharp Lady and driver Ray Fisher Jr. are the morning line favourites at 5-2.
