Meet Anthem Singer Brenda Mullen
Georgian Downs is pleased to welcome renowned vocalist Brenda Mullen to the Canadian Harness Racing stage to sing the national anthem at this year’s Xtreme Fan event.
Mullen is from Peterborough, Ont. and has been singing professionally since age 11. She has performed all over Canada and the U.S. at festivals, fairs, theatre shows and showcases, and is part of a band in Nashville with some talented musicians that also play in the Grand Ole Opry.
Mullen even has an equine connection --- her family having been involved with show horses for as long as she can remember. “We share boarding facilities with standardbred racehorse owners --- they are a beautiful breed of horse and I just love all the different personalities!”
When asked what the highlight of her career has been so far, Mullen was quick to answer. “I’ll never forget when I met Etta James,” she recalls. “Etta is one of my idols. Getting advice from her meant the world to me. She hugged me and told me never to give up on my dreams!”
At the moment, Mullen is in the middle of the creative process, co-writing some new music with a variety of producers and writers, which she loves. “My goal is to get my name and my music out there for people to hear,” Mullen explains. “It’s important to build a fan base of people that will come out to hear you sing live. I really appreciate the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Xtreme Horsepower. It is such an honour to be that patriotic voice!”
