Freshman Pacers Invade Meadville
Two-year-old pacers highlighted day 2 of racing at the Crawford County Fair on Tuesday (August 21st) in Meadville, PA.
Roger Hammer and Camturo Beach took the first race of the day, winning the first of three two-year-old $4,187 PASS colt paces in 2:04.3. Hammer also owns and trains the Somebeachsomewhere colt. In the second heat, Nuclear Brown (Nuclear Breeze) was a first time winner for driver Chris Shaw, trainer Jason Shaw, and owner William Spotti, Jr. in 2:06.2. Captain Kubota continued his dominance on the fair circuit this year, winning the final division in 2:04.1 for driver Brady Brown. Mike Gillock trains, and Mike Fleming and Rich Gillock own the McArdle gelding.
Three divisions of the PASS two-year-old filly pace were up next, each going for a purse of $4,118. DVC Jaded Attitude, a Magical Mike mare, won the first division for owner/trainer/driver Dave Brickell in a time of 2:05. Brady Brown picked up his second winning drive of the day in 2:07.4 with Caviart Ginger, a Real Desire mare trained by Jason Bresnahan and owned by Jason, Clyde, and Marilyn Bresnahan, along with Debbra Kerr. In the third and final division, Roger Hammer won once again as an owner/trainer/driver with a Somebeachsomewhere horse, this time with mare Lifesarealbeach in 2:06.1.
Two Free For All trots and a Quaker Stake pace closed out the card, with the first trot bringing a new track record for older horse and gelding trotters. 4-year old SJ Better Days (SJ's Caviar) set the record for driver Roger Hammer, trainer Boots Dunn, and owner the Dunn Stable, in 2:03.3. Lyrical Lady, another 4-year-old, made it 2 in a row for the Dunn Stable, taking the second Free For All trot in 2:06.3. The Cantab Hall mare is also trained by Boots Dunn, and was also driven by Roger Hammer. The final race of the day, a Quaker Stake pace, was won by Fool Bewitch U in 2:08.0. The Western Ideal mare is trained by lessee Ronald Lineweaver, and was driven to the victory by Jim Dodson.
Racing continues tomorrow (August 22st) at the Crawford County Fair, with seven races and a 12:30 post time.
