Bridger Sweep For Wheeling N Dealin
Sweeping this year’s Bridger Trotting Series was like taking candy from a baby for Wheeling N Dealin, who manufactured wins in 1:57.2 and 1:59.1 in the preliminary legs before shipping back to Mohawk Racetrack to win Monday’s $50,000 final in 1:57.3.
In rein to Sylvain Filion, Wheeling N Dealin sat outside of Hobsons Choice through an opening quarter trotted in :29.1 before muscling his way to the lead. He cleared without much of a tussle, and after slicing out middle splits of :59.1 and 1:28.4 the Dustin Jones trainee turned on the jets and sprinted home in :28.4 while drawing clear to win by 4-3/4 lengths. Theatrical Session rallied well to take home the runner-up award, while Winbak Sullivan settled for the show dough after doing the first-over work.
“I felt pretty confident sitting behind him,” said driver Sylvain Filion about the 1/5 favourite. “Every time I sit behind this horse he’s such a nice horse. You can feel each race he knows more and more what he’s doing out there. That’s good for me because he makes my job much easier.”
The two-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Quick Credit, who was a $100,000 purchase from last years Harrisburg Yearling Sale, is now 4-for-4 to begin his career for Ecurie Synergie of Montreal, QC. The $25,000 payday helped boost his earnings to $59,000.
