Bernard Lavigne scored his first career driving win on Friday, August 17 at Grand River Raceway.

The 24-year-old reinsman steered Hopetostrykeitrich to his first win for owner Shirley Reibeling and trainer Kyle Reibeling. The pacer went off at 9-1. Lavigne took him to the top and never looked back, settling three-and-a-half lengths the best over Likely To Win and Amillionbucks in 1:59.3.

Lavigne, of Gatineau, Que., has driven exclusively at Rideau Carleton for his past 34 starts. He had two drives earlier in the Grand River card, which produced a second and seventh before his maiden win in race six.

Grand River Raceway takes a slight hiatus in their race schedule next week. There will be no qualifying or racing on August 20, and no racing on August 22 to accommodate events staged by the Grand River Agricultural Society. Racing returns Friday, August 24 at 7:05 p.m.

In my opinion Bernard has always displayed a great deal of talent in limited opportunities. It is very difficult for any driver to break in at Rideau let alone a youngster. Glad to see some good trainers at Grand River giving Bernard a start, he will do the rest!
