Miliondollardesign Romps In Manitoba Great Western Stake
Miliondollardesign made amends for being placed back in his elimination heat earlier in the day with a five and a half length romp in the $4,152 final of the Manitoba Great Western Stake Sunday at Killarney.
Trained and driven by Dean Rey, Milliondollardesign crossed the wire first with five and a half lengths to spare in 2:05.3 in his elimination, but was set back to second with first over challenger Burnt On Top and Kirk Rogers inheriting the win.
However, three races later in the final Milliondollardesign blasted to the lead from post six and carved out fractions of :30.3, 1:01.1 and 1:31.2 before drawing away for the career-best 2:02.1 triumph over the off track. Canadian Touch and Roland Rey, who were winners of another elimination heat, followed from the pocket to finish second. Heartland Firmway and Philip Giesbrecht were third. Milliondollardesign's stablemate Lets Go Jo, who also won an elimination heat, was scratched from the final.
Milliondollardesign paid $3.80 to win as the bettors' choice. The Million Dollar Cam-Divine Design colt, who is now three-for-six in his career, is owned and bred by Dean and Jennifer Rey of St. Claude, MB.
Outlaw Spider and driver Dallas McGee inherited the 2:02.3 victory in this week's $1,900 Open Handicap Pace after following reigning class champion Armbro Dublin and Blake Piwniuk, who were placed back to last. James Jeffers trains the six-year-old Freedoms Pass-Slick Sensation gelding for Bev Huys of Deloraine, MB.
Trainer Jodie Cullen teamed up with driver Travis Cullen to win four of the afternoon's 12 races. The duo won back-to-back races with the streaking Julianas Girl, Parker Hall and Stonebridge Camlot. Their final victory came later with Rays Folly.
