Twilight Seelster Sets Woodstock Record
Fans were treated to a track record performance in Tuesday’s opening contest at Woodstock Raceway thanks to a 1:57 victory turned in by Twilight Seelster.
The two-year-old daughter of Modern Art-Titania Seelster toured the half-mile oval in 1:57, and in doing so she became the track’s fastest freshman pacing filly of all-time.
Mike Horner got away fourth with Twilight Seelster, who was sent off as the 1-2 favourite in the $5,500 conditioned event, before marching first-over in the back-half of the mile. She watched Forever Linda lay down fractions of :29.1 and :57.3 before sweeping by that foe at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2. She still had enough left in reserve to unleash a :29.3 closing panel en route to the win by 3-3/4 lengths over Western Empress. Forever Linda faded late and settled for third.
The 1:57 performance knocked Up Front American out of the record books as the track’s fasted two-year-old pacing filly. Her record of 1:57.4 was established nearly a decade ago on September 7, 2002.
Keith McKellar trains Twilight Seelster, who was a $13,000 purchase from last year’s Forest City Yearling Sale, for owner Brad Wilson of Lambton Shores, ON. The filly, who is now 4-for-4 to start her career, has banked $19,500 to date.
