Better Get Ready Sets Sudbury Record
Better Get Ready destroyed the sophomore track record with a 1:53.4 eye-catching 15-1/2 length victory in the second leg of the Juggernaut Series at Sudbury Downs on Saturday night.
Better Get Ready and driver Mike MacNeill established the lead from post two during a :28-second opening panel in the lone $7,500 round two division before being confronted by Pass The Deuce and Jason Ryan at the half in :56.1. However, Better Get Ready rebuffed his challenger en route to the 1:25.1 third quarter station and then opened up daylight on the field with a final quarter clocked in :28.3. Better Get Ready's 1:53.4 clocking was a career-best effort and shaved four-fifths of a second off Fiesty Flyer's track record for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
The popular first leg winner Apache White Foot, driven by Gerry Belanger, rallied from near the back of the pack to finish second over Frisky Burl and Justin Turcotte.
Better Get Ready paid $7.70 to win as the 5-2 second choice. The E Dees Cam-Keystone Tiara gelding, who has won half of his 10 starts while banking $26,910, is trained by Jay Polifroni for owner Jim Polifroni of Sudbury, Ont.
The series is for pacers that are five years old and younger and non-winners of two races or $20,000 lifetime (fillies & mares $27,500 lifetime) as of midnight, Saturday, July 7, 2012. No additional allowances.
The Juggernaut will continue next Saturday, August 11 before wrapping up with a $22,500 (estimated) final on Saturday, August 18.
