One Week Old Record Lowered
Euphoria Seelster's 1:57 Northside Downs track record for aged pacing mares only stood for one week as P L Betterway lowered the mark by one-fifth of a second in her absence with an 11 length romp in the ninth race on Saturday afternoon.
With the inside post advantage, the seven-year-old Camluck mare grabbed the lead and never looked back with Greg Bailey in tow for one of his five wins on the program. Favourite P L Betterway ($3.20) laid down opening fractions of :30.2 and 1:00.4 before opening up seven lengths on her foes en route to the 1:28.4 third quarter mark. She then extended that leading margin into the double digits down the homestretch to record the 1:56.4 triumph for trainer Katie Miller. Eileens David and Loch Monster, who finished second and third in Euphoria Seelster's record-setting mile last week, rounded out the top three finishers once again.
The victory the P L Betterway's third in a row and sixth in 25 seasonal starts for owners Jonah Moase of Cornwall, P.E.I. and Edwin Moase of Little York, P.E.I. She is now a 22-time career winner with $62,557 banked in purses.
Euphoria Seelster will race in the first leg of the Spud Island Classic this evening at Charlottetown Driving Park.
