The 'Party' Continues For Moreau
Just two days after Richard Moreau trainee Canbec Fridolin matched Stormont Lancelot's older male trotting track record at Grand River Raceway, the track's leading conditioner watched another pupil lower the mark by three-fifths of a second.
The effort also knocked four fifth's of a second off the Canadian record for older trotting horses. The previous mark of 1:56.1 was set by Speed Bomb at Flamboro Downs in 2007.
Partyatyourplace blazed through fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:26.3 en route to a flashy 14-3/4 length victory in 1:55.2 in his fifth race claiming-conditioning assignment. Grand River's leading reinsman and four-time Friday night winner Trevor Henry was in the sulky for the trotter's record-setting mile.
The four-year-old Amigo Hall gelding was making his first start for Moreau after being claimed for $15,000 on July 24 at Georgian Downs by owner Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont.
Canbec Fridolin's 1:56 clocking still stands as the track's fastest mile by a gelding trotter.
Moreau picked up another win later on the card with his other starter, nine-year-old trotter Perfect Vacation, driven by Dan Clements to a 1:57 score.
