Smooth Landing For Hare Craft
Things didn’t go very well for Hare Craft in last week’s $11,000 Preferred Pace at Grand River Raceway, but he managed to turn things around in Monday’s follow-up effort at the Elora oval.
After hitting turbulence and making a break and finishing eighth in his July 16 assignment, Hare Craft returned to the half-mile oval and produced a hard-fought triumph in 1:54.2 for driver Scott Coulter.
The gelding got away fifth while Mach Wheel and American Romance took turns on the lead through fractions of :28 and :57.1. Hare Craft marched first-over at the half, and was at the saddle pad of American Romance at the three-quarter pole in 1:26. Hare Craft summoned up a :28.2 final frame, and that was good enough to earn him the win by one-quarter of a length over Mach Of Ballykeel, with Mach Wheel settling for third.
Wayne Preszcator trains the four-year-old son of Yankee Cruiser=Hare Trigger for Harness Racing Canada 15 of Mississauga, ON and John Di Antonio of Harwich, MA. It was the pacer’s fifth win of the season and the 16th of his career. The lion’s share of the $11,000 purse bumped his yearly career cash stash to $84,510 while his lifetime total climbed to just shy of $300,000.
