'Smuggler' Repeats In Labatts Series
Smuggler Hall went wire-to-wire to win his second consecutive Labatts Claiming Series division on Saturday night at Georgian Downs.
Smuggler Hall ($4.70) won his $10,000 split by two lengths in 1:58.2 with Dan Clements in tow. The four-year-old Conway Hall gelding was trained by Mike Sinclair and owned by Steve Organ and Rosemary Shelswell before being claimed during Saturday's second round of the series for $15,625 by Rene Allard.
Allard owns and trains the other round two division winner, Xpress Panic ($5.20). The five-year-old Imperial Angus gelding, who finished just a half-length behind Smuggler Hall in the opening leg, front-stepped his way to a 1:58.3 score in Saturday's set with Travis Henry in the sulky.
The series is for $12,500 claimers that are non-winners of $60,000 lifetime as of June 15 (no allowances). It will wrap up next Saturday with a $30,000 (added) final.
