Municipalities To Approach Transitional Panel With Plans
It has been reported that six mayors from municipalities which are home to Ontario racinos are planning on approaching the horse racing transition panel assembled by the provincial Liberal government with particular requests for their own jurisdictions.
According to a report by Bullet News, Jim Ginn, mayor of Central Huron, home to Clinton Raceway, has said that each area has subtle different circumstances in regard to transition, but that each municipality is still drawn together in their effort to save the Ontario horse-racing industry.
Ginn stated that, unfortunately, given the situation, some of the municipalities are looking to utilize their pieces of the transitional funding dollars towards moving individuals currently employed by Ontario horse racing into other lines of work.
The Bullet News article did not list all of the specifics as to what each municipality is planning.
“Everyone agrees that we want to try to preserve the racing industry as best we can, even though some realize that in their municipalities they’re probably going to be closing," Ginn was quoted as saying. "It’s the feeling amongst all that it’s an important agricultural industry and for the sake of rural Canada, it’s important that it remain strong.”
