Truro Raceway is currently accepting applications for the position of Charter.

Part-time:
• Mainly on Sundays, with other dates when there are special events.

The Opportunity:

Charters are responsible for recording live race data information with attention to detail and accuracy. Adhere with the Maritime Province Harness Racing Commission, Standardbred Canada and other applicable municipal laws and regulations. Comply with safety standards of the corporation. Responsible for establishing and maintaining the highest level of customer service, both with patrons and co-workers.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Must be willing to obtain official accreditation through Standardbred Canada and MPHRC after completion of charter examination.


• Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, communications, mathematical skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in the following areas would be an asset:

• Calling and charting qualifying and pari-mutuel races, including post position and positions of each horse at quarter intervals and head of the stretch with lengths behind the leader, noting any standard symbols for breaks, park outs and interferences.


• Recording finish of race provided by judges with beaten lengths and individual times of each horse.


• Recording fractions along with temperature, track condition, distance and type of race, closing dollar odds and any driver or trainer changes.

Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
