Fields Set For Gold Rush Card
Eliminations for next Saturday's $1 million Gold Rush card took place Saturday at Georgian Downs and Trot Insider has provided updates here on all the action from the evening.
Georgian Downs's Gold Rush card will feature four $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Finals for three-year-olds and four $150,000 (added) Masters Series Finals for Ontario-sired older horses next Saturday, July 7.
OSS Gold - Three-Year-Old Filly Pace
Cooking The Books kicked off the action with a career-best 1:53.2 victory in the first $40,000 OSS Gold elimination for three-year-old filly pacers. Driven by Jack Moiseyev, the Mach Three-Gallery Girl miss out-sprinted Legal Entity (Anthony MacDonald) down the stretch as she rallied from last to first for her second win in eight seasonal starts. Jeremes Sweetheart (Scott Zeron) finished third over heavy 1-9 favourite Class Of O Nine (Randy Waples). Longshot Mindsweeper (Chris Christoforou) finished fifth.
Cooking The Books paid $28 to win as the second longest shot on the board at 13-1. John Kopas trains the filly for Ontario owners Glengate Farms of Campbellville, Helen Biback of Thornhill and Old Aultsville Stable of Mississauga.
Favourite Jet Wash and driver Sylvain Filion rolled up to take over command after the opening quarter mark and rebuffed a challenge from the eventual second place finisher Katys Jet (Scott Zeron) en route to a 1:53.1 triumph in the second elimination. Twin B Elite (Randy Waples) finished third while Hope For Paddy (Billy Davis Jr.) was fourth and Apogee Hanover (Doug McNair) was fifth.
Jet Wash paid $4.30 to win for the fourth time in 10 starts during her debut season. Trainer Jeff Gillis bred the Jeremes Jet-Shes Beachy miss and co-owns with partners Jonathan Binks of St. Thomas, Mac Nichol of Burlington, and New York's Ellen Ott.

OSS Gold - Three-Year-Old Colt Trot
Lightly raced three-year-old trotting gelding Cold Certified, driven by Jason Brewer, pulled the pocket in the stretch and overtook the popular tempo-setter Il Mago (Trevor Ritchie) to win his Gold elimination in a new lifetime mark of 1:55.3. Heres The Magic (Scott Zeron) finished third with Midfield Magic (Rick Zeron) following in for fourth. Keystone Orion (Dave Boughton) was fifth.
The son of Kadabra and I Like Stephanie paid $6 to win for the fourth time in seven seasonal starts. Cold Certified, who was a runner-up to Il Mago in their first Gold Final of the season on May 25 at Western Fair Raceway, is trained by Gary Lance for owners Trevor Lance, Sandy Moulton and GL Racing Inc. of Port Perry, and Brian Samis of Uxbridge.
Making just his second start of the season, Prestidigitator survived a first over journey to win his elimination in a career-best 1:55.2 for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer R. Dustin Jones. Early leaders Reckon Im Ready (Mike Vanderkemp) and Mikey Hanover (Paul MacDonell) finished second and third while Victim Of Changes (Scott Zeron) and Amigo Ranger (Wayne MacLean) grabbed the final paycheques in fourth and fifth.
Owned by Ecurie Synergie of Montreal, Que, the Kadabra-Shesa Priority colt paid $3.30 to win as the favourite.

OSS Gold - Three-Year-Old Colt Pace
Michaels Power returned to the Innisfil oval where he captured the Upper Canada Cup on May 26 and dominated his Ontario-sired foes once again to win his elimination in 1:51.3. Piston Broke (Sylvain Filion) closed well to finish second over Secretsoftheknight (Doug McNair). Early leaver Huxley (Robert Shepherd) finished fourth and Goban (Mike Saftic) was fifth.
Scott Zeron drove the lightly raced Camluck-Michelles Jackpot gelding to his fifth win in six seasonal starts for trainer Casie Coleman and owner Jeffrey Snyder of New York. The heavy favourite paid $2.60 to win.
Driven by J.R. Plante, Upper Canada Cup Consolation winner Thunder Steeler went wire-to-wire in his elimination, holding off Hard To Mach (Doug McNair) for the 1:50.3 score. Best Ears (Rick Zeron) and Winbak Warrior (Billy Davis Jr.) came on for third and fourth while The Unsub (Lyle MacArthur) rounded out the payees.
The Lis Mara-Avacal Future colt, who has won three times in seven starts so far this year, is trained by Isaac Waxman for the Uncirculated Stable of Burlington and Frank Smyth of Dundas. Thunder Steeler paid $4.40 to win as the bettors' choice.

OSS Gold - Three-Year-Old Filly Trot
Twin B Sensation, driven by Stephen Byron, slipped up the inside from the pocket down the stretch to put an end to the pacesetting Daylon Miracle's (Dave Wall) undefeated win streak. The Ken Warkentin-Senorita Sierra filly stopped the clock in a career-best time of 1:55.4. First over Lovely Vacation (Randy Waples) edged by Daylon Miracle for second. Windsong Idol (Chris Christoforou) finished fourth and Frisky Strike (Paul MacDonell) was fifth.
John Bax trains the winner of four races in six starts this season for Ontario owners Parkhill Stud Farm of Peterborough, Glengate Farms of Campbellville, and Gaelic Stable of Sharon. She returned a healthy $21.10 to her backers as the 9-1 fourth choice in the field.
With Jack Moiseyev in the driver's seat, Circles circled the Innisfil oval during the second elimination and held off the quick-closing favourite, Miss Paris (Rick Zeron), to prevail in the win photo. She established a new mark of 1:56.1 and paid $17.90 for the mild 7-1 upset. Sugar Wheeler (Paul MacDonell) finished third with Lexus Helios (Mike Saftic) coming in fourth. Elin (Trevor Ritchie) was fifth.
The Majestic Son-Merles Image filly, a top contender in the OSS program last season, earned her first win in four starts this year for her new connections, trainer Tommy Andersson and owner Tom Lund of Killestrom, Norway.

Masters Series - Open Pace
Two-time Masters Series champion Bigtime Ball and driver Paul MacDonell went all the way to win his 2012 elimination in 1:51 flat by a nose. The millionaire pacer held off Machal Jackson (J.R. Plante) for his first win in five seasonal starts. Mach Dreamer (Billy Davis Jr.) finished third, Stolen Car (Rick Zeron) was fourth, and Camaes Fellow (Scott Zeron) rounded out the field.
The eight-year-old Presidential Ball-Keystone Trinidad gelding paid $2.50 to win as the heavy favourite. Gord Irwin of Cobourg, Ont. owns, trains and bred the 37-time career winner.
With Sylvain Filion in the bike, favourite Sparky Mark advanced first up from third down the backstretch and wore down pacesetter Stonebridge Tonic (Doug McNair) to win his elimination in 1:50.3. Dalhousie Dave (Rick Zeron) rounded out the top three while Mystician (Scott Zeron) finished fourth and Thepaninsulahotel (Chris Christoforou) was fifth.
Mark Austin trains the five-year-old son of Astreos and Luckbealadytonite for owner-breeder Leo Thibodeau of Windsor, Ont. He paid $3.60 to win for the third time in 12 starts this year and 23rd time in his 50-race career.
Masters Series - Open Trot
While eliminations weren't necessary for the open trot division, a $15,000 conditioned prep race was carded, which saw millionaire Daylon Magician romp to a 1:52.1 track and Canadian record triumph for trainer-driver Jack Moiseyev. Undercover Strike (Mike Saftic) finished over seven lengths behind in second and Windsong Geant (Rick Zeron) was third.
Daylon Magician paid $2.10 to win for the third time in five seasonal outings. The four-year-old Kadabra-Daylon Marvel horse is owned by Daylon Farms Ltd. Komoka, Ont. He lowered Winning Mister's all-age five-eighths mile record by three-fifths of a second.
