Quebec Teletheatres Set To Open
The Quebec Jockey Club will open its first teletheatre, at Place Dupuis in downtown Montreal, in a matter of days, with two others due to open before the end of July and another two in September, QJC president Tony Infilise said in a statement posted today on its website.
Teletheatres are an important part of the QJC’s plan to grow revenue and expand purses for the industry, Infilise said. The QJC hopes to double the number in 2013.
The QJC, which recently concluded the purchase of Hippodrome Trois-Rivieres, is projecting purses of $1.6 million in 2013, $2 million in 2014 and $2.5 million in 2015, conservative numbers that could rise if wagering is strong and new revenue sources can be found, Infilise said.
The QJC’s inaugural meet at Hippodrome Trois-Rivieres will consist of 10 programs from Sept. 9 through Oct. 9.
