Redwood Scores Yorkton Grand Slam
It was another night where Tyler Redwood starred in the cart at Cornerstone Raceway in Yorkton as he drove four winners from his stable, and added a second, third and fourth in eight drives.
Redwood started early taking race one on the nine-race card with Im A Wildcat over Kevin Siever and Kalahari Cajun and David Cameron with Weekend Superstar. Race four Redwood took Judges Discretion to the winner's circle, the fourth straight win for the seven-year-old mare. This week he topped Brian Gray with Stagger Lee and Glenn LeDrew with Bubblemint.
"She's just like wine and gets better with age," said Redwood. "She's tough right now. She's tough as nails."
Redwood said Judges Discretion is just giving him "every bit she's got," and that makes driving her easier.
"If I make a mistake she's going to pick up my garbage, and fix what I've done wrong," he said.
With four straight wins, Redwood said the mare is certainly proving one of the steadiest performers at the track this year given her class ($2,500 claimers). That said, Redwood said his best horse is probably Light The Board, which finished second in the feature race. He said last week he took Light The Board to the front end "and he got tired."
So this week he raced from the back, "and we rock and rolled" coming up just short finishing second. The seventh race on the card was the night's feature race with Rogers and Tajerine Dream taking Crystal Clear Imprints race.
Ashley Rocks was Redwood's winning drive in race five over Kirk Rogers and Marlowe and Garett Isman with Cheyenne Dusk. Redwood made it three wins in a row with Well Heeled in race six, over Richard Remillard and Miss Tinkerbelle and Kevin Sampson with Found My Desire.
With his stable racing so well earlier in the meet, Redwood was asked how he will keep the horses sharp the rest of the season.
"I've got little tricks that I don't want to say," he said, adding "It comes down to great conditioning."
That said, Redwood said it is going to get tougher in his mind.
"It's all going to change from here on," he said, adding all the horses at the track are coming into form with more races under them this season. "...I think it's going to get tougher."
