Fields Set For Ladner, Starrett And Harkness Final; Last Art On Deck Favoured In Summerside Feature On Sunday
Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park will host the Cecil Ladner Memorial Final, the Ken Starrett Memorial Final for three-year-old fillies and the Doug Harkness Memorial Final for three-year-old colts Saturday night.
First-race post time is 6:00 p.m. The world broadcast will be carried at redshores.ca.
Some of the best horses in the region will line up in the race 11 Ladner Final with Leading Camdidate listed as the morning line favorite from Post 5 by race secretary Gerard Smith. The five-year-old tracked mid pack in the elimination but rushed with a strong closing quarter in 28 seconds flat to finish fourth by a length in 1:55.3 posted by winner Windemere Express owned by John Thompson of Charlottetown, trained by Earl Watts and driven by John Holmes. Holmes has opted to drive the other Watts trainee in the final, Carnivore, from Post 3.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac is going with Arabica from Post 9. Since Hughes is committed on Leading Camdidate, Kenny Arsenault is back in the bike. MacIsaac likes his chances. “He’s been drawing the six hole on a regular basis which has been forcing him to come first up at the half,” explained the host of Les’s Picks in the race program. “He’ll probably have to come early again from the back tier but if can pick up some cover instead of providing it he’s quite possibly the one to beat.”
Here is the field from the rail out Epanephrine (pp1), Oakmont (pp2), Carnivore (pp3), Oakrock Almighty (pp4), Leading Camdidate (pp5), Outlawpositcharg (pp6), Windmere Express (pp7), Maritimer (pp8), Arabica (pp9).
Lee Drake, Marketing Manager and Brett Revington, Race Manager, are also getting into the mix. Drake has selected Oakrock Almighty as his top choice while Revington’s choice is newcomer Leading Camdidate.
In other news on the program Southfield Sophie is the 5-2 morning line choice in the Ken Starrett Memorial. The filly, owned by Southfield Farms Inc, Summerside, is going for her fourth straight win. Mr Thompson, owned by Boyd MacDonald Produce of Crapaud and Dan Ross of Belfast, and Junebugs Baby are leading candidates in the Doug Harkness Memorial for three-year-old pacing colts.
