Lower KY Court Overturns Legality Of Instant Racing
It has been reported that late last week a court of appeals in Kentucky overturned a ruling which allowed 'instant racing' machines in The Bluegrass State.
According to an article by the Thoroughbred Times, the Friday, June 15 ruling leaves Kentucky Horse Racing Commission rules regarding the machines in place, but overturned a lower court's determination that the machines are legal.
Instant Racing machines allow the user to wager on previously-run or 'historical' races. The user is not given any information about the already-contested race before he/she places a wager on the outcome.
"Today's ruling in no way changes the position of Kentucky Downs that pari-mutuel wagering on historical racing fully complies with the law," the operators of Kentucky Downs said via statement. "Kentucky Downs will continue to operate Instant Racing under the regulatory authority of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission whose regulations remain in full force and effect."
Kentucky Downs is currently the only racetrack in the State of Kentucky to offer Instant Racing to its customers.
