New Hiawatha Trot Record For Wynter

Four-year-old trotting mare Wynter etched her name in the record books with a career-best 1:56.2 victory in her Saturday night conditioning assignment at Hiawatha Horse Park.

The heavy 1-2 favourite turned back challenges from Highest Hill and Latte Cafe through fractions of :27.4, :58 and 1:27.1 before drawing off in the stretch to win by nine lengths while shaving one-fifth of a second off Quando's track record for aged trotting mares.

Don Rankin Jr. drove the Amigo Hall-Wanabee The Best miss for trainer Lawrence Gibbons of Wheatley, who also co-owns with Chris Clarridge of Barrie. After going winless in four sophomore starts during her debut season, Wynter has put together a record reading 4-3-2 in nine 2012 outings.
