Three-Move Win For My Drag Queen
Already used twice earlier in the mile, My Drag Queen still had enough pop in the Lightning Lane to capture Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace — her second straight victory — at The Meadows.
Stuck with post eight, My Drag Queen found a seat fifth along the pylons for Aaron Merriman, who moved the four-year-old daughter of Dragon Again-Kinki to follow the cover of Jans Luck. When Merriman was able to steer her back to the cones, My Drag Queen found new life and brushed past Tremor Hanover to down that rival by half a length in 1:52. Moonlite Delite rallied wide for show.

In Friday’s companion feature, the $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot, 11-1 outsider Firstclassprincess went from worst to first with a strong first-up charge that carried her to victory for Mike Wilder, trainer Ron Burke and owner Michael Andrew. Nickie K found late room for second, a length back, with Anastasia Whinnie third in the Lightning Lane.
Firstclassprincess, a four-year-old daughter of Classic Photo-Princess Pan, now boasts $270,670 in career earnings.
Tony Hall and Merriman drove three winners on the 15-race card.
