KHRC Passes T-Bred Lasix Ban
It has been reported that on Wednesday, June 13, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission voted in favour of a regulation that will see the banning of the race-day administration of furosemide (lasix) in two-year-old thoroughbreds in certain instances effective 2014.
An article by the Lexington Herald-Leader explains that the KHRC voted 7-5 in favour of the regulation, which will see the ban come into effect January 1, 2014 in graded and listed stakes races over a three-year period.
The report states that by 2015 the ban will be expanded to three-year-olds in races including the Kentucky Derby. By 2016, it will cover all stakes races.
