Zeron Celebrates 7,500th Win

Driver Rick Zeron notched a driving milestone on Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, and he inched a bit closer to another one thanks his win behind trotter Zeus Lightning.

Zeron, who earned the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship in 2010, hustled Zeus Lightning to the lead in Monday’s ninth race over the Campbellville oval and the Steve Charlton trainee wired up his foes in 1:53.4 to give the sulky sitter the 7,500th win of his career.

The horseman from Oakville, Ontario, who was inducted to that city’s Hall of Fame earlier this season, has banked more than $5 million in each of the 10 seasons of racing. He’s on the verge of joining racing’s $100-million club. He’s just over $3 million shy of hitting that number – and if all goes well for the accomplished veteran he could hit that target later this year.
