Button Up Upsets In Elora
Veteran pacer Button Up returned to the scene of the biggest win of his career on Monday evening and added another impressive victory to his resume for Team Horner
.
The nine-year-old son of Northern Luck-Better Butter, who grabbed a $150,000 payday at Grand River Raceway when he captured the $300,000 Battle Of Waterloo Final on August 1, 2005, resurfaced at the Elora oval and captured Monday’s $11,000 Preferred #2 Pace in a sharp clocking of 1:54.1.
Button Up got away fourth as per the instructions of driver Mike Horner, but life was about to get a lot tougher in the middle half for the Mark Horner pupil. He was asked to go first-over against Ocala, who threw down fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.3 in the nine-horse affair. Button Up eventually wore down the pacesetter and then used a :28.3 kicker to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Ocala in 1:54.1. Third prize went to Blackbird Singing.
Owned by the Sure Gain Stable of Mitchell, ON, Button Up won for the second time this season and for the 33rd time in his career. The 33-time winner now boasts a seasonal bankroll of $39,518 and a career cash stash of $673,727.
