Bad Rusty Rolls In Harrington Open
Rodney Hundertpfund Jr.’s Bad Rusty rallied with authority in the final eighth of a mile for Ross Wolfenden to prevail in the featured $18,000 Open Pace Monday
at Harrington Raceway in 1:54.
The seven-year-old Badlands Hanover gelding mounted his attack on pacesetting favourite Jolt in the final quarter-mile and surged by that rival at the top of the stretch for a decisive score. Jolt held second, while Braden finished third.
Bad Rusty, trained by Joe Hundertpfund, Jr., earned his third win of the season and increased his lifetime earnings to more than $368,000. He paid $7.20.
Wolfenden won three races on the card.
The fastest mile on the program came in the eighth race when Ted Gewertz, Fannin Racing, Robert Feldman and George Teague’s Wind Me Up ($2.40, Montrell Teague) uncorked a vicious 1:52 front-end score in a $10,600 conditioned event. The four-year-old son of Bettors Delight earned his first win in limited action this season after a banner three-year-old campaign, in which he won $223,265.
