Papis Rocket Favoured In Charlottetown Preferred
Papis Rocket will look to continue his recent winning ways in Saturday afternoon's Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 12-dash presentation starting at 12:30 p.m. (AST) with the featured $7,510 pace taking centre stage in race 11.
Papis Rocket is the 5-2 morning line favourite from post six with David Dowling in the bike for trainer Mike Ramsay. The four-year-old son of Papi Rob Hanover-Real Touch has been dominant in recent weeks, capturing his last three starts including a 1:53.2 victory in the Preferred on Oct. 31. The $735,665 career winner has six victories this season and is owned by Derrill Murphy of Lethbridge, Alta., Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S., Jennifer Ritchie of Kingston, P.E.I., and Ryan MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I.
Arbitrage Hanover is a major threat from post four with Ken Murphy driving for trainer Clifford Murphy. The five-year-old son of Bettors Wish-Ana Hanover has assembled an impressive 2026 campaign with four wins, eight seconds and two seconds in 24 starts with $80,147 in earnings. He was runner-up to Papis Rocket in his latest outing and will look to turn the tables on Saturday.
Bettor Than Spring and Corey MacPherson will start from post three fresh off a victory in 1:56.1 for trainer Tessa MacKinnon. Merigo Magic, trained and drive by Adam Merner, has post two after capturing the P.E.I. Free-For-All Consolation three starts ago on Premier's Cup night. The field also includes Hunters Hero and trainer/driver Landon Campbell from the inside post and the Ron Matheson-trained Air Force Hanover with Gilles Barrieau from post five.
The "Post Time Picks" selects Arbitrage Hanover to turn the tables on Papis Rocket in the $7,150 feature: “Arbitrage Hanover raced from the back last week but did zip home in :28.2 to nab the deuce. He slides in one spot on the gate and we’re betting Murphy will have him a little closer to the action so they could go one better and get the gold this time."
