Lindy Believer Scores In Liberty Bell For Fifth Straight
Lindy Believer, coming off a Massachusetts Breeders Stakes sweep, captured her $47,917 division of the Liberty Bell Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies to up her winning streak to five on Thursday, Nov. 5 at Harrah's Philadelphia.
Lindy Believer, a daughter of Captaintreacherous-Believe Its Lindy, yielded past a :29.1 first quarter to sit in the two-hole through :58.1 and 1:26 middle panels, then came home in :27.2 to beat out first-over Jk Alwaysbpositive (Tim Tetrick) by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.3. Manger (Corey Callahan) was third. Jason Bartlett drove the winner, now six-for-13, for trainer Petter Engblom and owners Engblom Farm LLC, R A W Equine Inc., Evans Nation and Hickory Hollow Stables. The win price was $9.60.
The other, and faster pacing division was won by another Captaintreacherous filly, Loyal To The End, in 1:53. Driver Andrew McCarthy waited patiently with the winner in fourth through :27.2 and :56.2 early fractions until pulling before three-quarters in 1:24.1. He then got her in high gear, and Loyal To The End stayed true to the end with a :55.3 back half to defeat 50-1 shot Kinda Girl U Like (Trae Porter) by 1-1/2 lengths. Sublime Hanover (Mark Herschberger) completed the top three. The Noel Daley trainee, owned by Let It Ride Stables Inc., Jesmeral Stable and Hutchison Harness LLC, has recorded four wins in eight starts, and each win has come in a different type of Keystone stake: a Pennsylvania Stallion Series stake, a PA All-Stars event, a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes leg and now a win in the Liberty Bell series. The filly out of Lifetime Trust paid $2.10 to win.
Another Captain – the hot stallion Captain Corey – was the father of the winner in the $63,333 Liberty Bell trot. Andersson Hanover (dam Angel Eyes Hanover), after yielding at the quarter in :28.1 to sit the pocket through :58.3 and 1:27.3 splits, came out late on the far turn, then out-finished leader Sevenoops Hanover (Jason Bartlett) home by a neck in 1:56.1. Eternal Light (Ake Svanstedt) completed the top three. The winner took her fourth victory in succession for driver Patrick Ryder, trainer Chris Ryder and owner John McKeon Jr. She paid $13 in her fifth career tally from eight outings.
Trainer-driver Åke Svanstedt, who last year set the all-time Philly seasonal record for UTR at .523, had a couple of impressive overnight winners as part of a conditioning triple. Hustle Rain S ($2.20), a seven-year-old intact son of Raja Mirchi-Miss Possess, went in 1:52.3 in recording his first North American victory for owner TLH Racing Inc., with identical :27.2 back splits marking him as a national-calibre prospect. The Chapter Seven-Fatima Blush freshman gelding Book It Armitage ($2.10) broke his maiden in style, stopping the timer in 1:53.4 (only three ticks off the track mark) with :56 - :28 back-half speed for Ake Svanstedt Inc., Little E LLC, Wolfgang A Stable Inc. and Kiwi Stables LLC. Svanstedt also won with the rookie Six Pack-Global Desire filly Globalpac Hanover ($2.60), a 1:57.2 winner whom he owns with Torbjorn Swahn Inc. and Northern Racing Partners.
The featured overnight trot on the card was a $19,444 conditioned contest for horses looking to step up the class ladder, and it was won in wire-to-wire fashion by Herecomesdajudge ($16), a four-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Designed To Be who pleased Pigmeat Markham fans with a 1:53.2 win. The winner was aided by some confusion and interference nearing headstretch, but he was in control almost all the way for driver Tyler Miller, trainer Julie Miller and the partnership of Andy Miller Stable Inc., T L P Stable, Rick Huffman and Dumain Haven Farm LLC.
Svanstedt led both sides of the day’s horsepersons’ stats with three wins on the 13-race card; the doubling drivers were Patrick Ryder and Tim Tetrick, the latter ending his Philly day tied for the top of the standings with Simon Allard at 119 wins. The trainers’ race is just as contested, with both Scott Di Domenico and Dean Eckley harnessing a Thursday winner to stay deadlocked at 44 for the campaign.
Friday’s 12:25 p.m. card at Philly will feature a $45,000 USD Liberty Bell stake for three-year-old trotting fillies, with Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion Little Road heading the field.
