Bet The Game Ships, Extends Streak At London
Maritime-bred Bet The Game carried a five-race win streak into his Ontario debut and built it to six with a comfortable victory in a $10,000 conditioned pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Bet The Game, hammered down to 1-5, made his presence known with a strong early push to the front for trainer-driver Mark MacDonell and led without challenge to the quarter in :29 and half in 1:00.3. The gelding promptly repelled the first-over bid of Woodmere Bedard (Brady Galliers) past three-quarters in 1:30.2 and pulled away from pocket-tripper Dancin Away (Samuel Fillion) down the stretch to score by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:59.4. Sirius Lee Quick (David Kelly) closed for third.
After making breaks as both starts as a rookie, Bet The Game went zero-for-three to start his sophomore campaign before moving to the barn of Darren Crowe, for whom he won five straight races. Owners Kevin Harvey of Halifax, N.S., Charles Bowlin of Grand Barachois, N.B. and Rudge Racing of Dartmouth, N.S. sent the son of All Bets Off-Back In The Game to MacDonell following his Oct. 18 score at Truro Raceway. The gelding is now six-for-11 with $9,718 in lifetime earnings. He paid $2.40 to win.
