Angel Nation Scores Milestone Win At Dayton
Angel Nation, a runner-up in the 2020 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals, notched his 50th career victory as he muscled up the cones to take a $26,056 optional-claiming trot at Dayton Raceway on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Trevor Smith accepted the two-hole trip behind Rose Run Valor (Kayne Kauffman) and kept Angel Nation pocketed through :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.2 fractions. The nine-year-old son of Archangel-Seawind Pascale waited for the rail to open, then did enough to nab Rose Run Valor in deep-stretch for a neck win in 1:55.3. Iwont Backdown As (Chris Page) charged down the outside for third.
Angel Nation's 50th win came in his 189th start as he raised his earnings to $917,387. Now trained by Antonia Storer, the gelding campaigned in Ontario for Ted MacDonnell as a three-year-old, rallying for second at 76-1 in his Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final. He has travelled around the United States since, racing at 11 different tracks, and has competed mainly in Ohio since late 2023. J M F Racing LLC and Friendship Stables LLC own the gelding, a five-time winner in 26 starts this season. He paid $10.80.
Sayinwhatimthinkin and driver Trevor Smith used a front-end effort to score a two-length victory in the $29,577 featured optional-claiming trot. Herecomescharlie B (Austin Hanners) was the first off the gate’s wings but quickly found himself between rivals, with Nickel And Dime (Tyler Smith) on the inside and Sayinwhatimthinkin on the outside. Sayinwhatimthinkin marched to the front, putting Nickel And Dime into the pocket, then proceeded to the quarter in :27.4 and half in :56.2. Triathlon As (Jeremy Smith) was then flushed off the rail, providing cover for Vekna (Kayne Kauffman). Unpressured at the three-quarters in 1:25, Sayinwhatimthinkin put some daylight between himself and his challengers around the final turn and cruised home in 1:54.1. Triathlon As closed for second, edging out Nickel And Dime by a quarter of a length.
The winning six-year-old gelded son of Swan For All-Special Interest picked up his 17th career tally in 115 starts. He is six-for-30 this year for trainer Jeff Smith and owner Tdtrot LLC. The win price was $2.80
Three-time Dayton Raceway leading driver Jeremy Smith enjoyed a big night, recording a grand slam on the 14-race card. Smith opened the evening with a victory behind Granite Ridge Lady ($5.20), stopping the clock in 1:52.4, and capped the program with a win behind Juliet Capulet ($3.80) in 1:53.1. In between, he guided Shes As Well ($7.60) to a 1:53.1 triumph and Victorious Farah ($3.40) to victory in 1:54.1.
Dayton Raceway will be back in action on Thursday with a 4 p.m. first post.
