Pony Chrome Ups Streak To Six; Svanstedt Triples
Pony Chrome, crowned an Illinois champion on Sept. 26 and the winner of the Buckette two days prior, scored her sixth consecutive victory and second straight at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania in a $21,831 conditioned trot on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The Southwind Chrome-Cordele As sophomore filly was a dynamic 1:53.1 winner. Tyler Buter slotted her in fourth from the eight post through :27.1 and :55.2 fractions, then put her in play first-up to three-quarters in 1:24. Pony Chrome blasted to the front entering the final turn and drew off to a 4-1/4-length margin over Peteza (Ridge Warren). Kenogami Mat (Anthony Napolitano) was third.
The talented Pony Chrome had won at Springfield twice, DuQuoin and the Delaware County Fair before recently being purchased by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Yannick Gingras and FAC Racing LLC. Pocono’s leading trainer Burke has combined with Pocono’s leading driver Buter to add two more wins onto the filly’s current streak, which has brought her totals to eight-for-12 on the year and nine-for-26 lifetime. She paid $2.80 to win.
The stable of Hall of Famer Åke Svanstedt, already sending out winners at a 34.6 per cent clip at Pocono, improved on that number during Tuesday's 13-race card with three victories from five starters. That tally includes a victory by the Chapter Seven–I D Diana No miss Kountry Irene in the top purse event of the day, a $22,535 event for two-year-old trotting fillies.
Kountry Irene, who traces back in the third generation to the $4 million-winning champion Mr Muscleman, has had some gait issues early in her career, but Tuesday she broke her maiden in fine style with a 1:57 victory. Kountry Irene quickly overcame the outside post seven to get the lead in a :28.1 opener and yielded to the brushing favourite Pippa Hill (Tyler Buter) and stalked her past a :57.3 half. She moved out before three-quarters in 1:27.3, then gradually put that rival away in the last stanza and won over the closer Queen Kate (Ridge Warren) by 1-1/2 lengths. Echo Valley Grace (Braxten Boyd) was third. Trainer-driver Svanstedt is also co-owner of the winning filly, now one-for-four, with OBM Stable. The win price was $9.80.
The other $21,831 subfeature for up-and-coming trotters went to the International Moni-By A Nose Hanover three-year-old gelding Nose Jammer, now a 14-time winner in 44 career starts after a 1:56 victory. Nose Jammer proved to be a pocket rocket as he won by a length for trainer-driver Todd Schadel, who shares ownership with wife Christine.
Svanstedt, who also won with Hypersonic ($3) and Secured ($2.40), was the only trainer with more than one win on the Tuesday Pocono card, driving two himself and using Buter for the other. Buter had four victories in all, and Ridge Warren recorded a double.
There are 10 more racing days to go in the 2026 Pocono schedule before closing day of Saturday, Nov. 21. Racing at Pocono resumes on Saturday at 1 p.m.; among the highlights will be world champion Ruthless Hanover going for his third straight win in the $27,500 USD Winners Over Handicap Pace, the first preliminary of the Game Of Claims Pacing Series for horses base-tagged at $10,000 USD and via simulcast, the second day of the Breeders' Cup World Championships of thoroughbred racing.
