Chantilly Cruises In Friday Qualifier At Mohawk
After back-to-back qualifying sessions with less than ideal conditions, the third time was the charm for star pacer Chantilly on Friday, Oct. 23 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
With sunny skies, mild temperatures and a fast track in Campbellville, Ont., Chantilly uncorked the fastest mile of the seven qualifying dashes carded at Mohawk.
Driver James MacDonald tucked Chantilly into the pocket behind Rochester Flash and driver Phil Hudon, and that duo clicked off panels of :26.2, :55.2 and 1:24 on the front end. MacDonald angled Chantilly off the pylons in the stretch, and the four-year-old mare closed confidently in :26.4 for the 1:51 score. Rochester Flash finished four lengths back in second, with Swift Talker (J. R. Plante) next best.
A daughter of Big Jim-Shiraz Seelster, 2024 Somebeachsomewhere Horse of the Year Chantilly sports a career summary of 15-1-0 from 20 appearances with a mark of 1:49.4 and $1.3 million in earnings. Nick Gallucci trains the homebred for owner Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont.
