Beca Mitchell Pitch Perfect In Harrington Mares Open
Beca Mitchell hit all the right notes to be a 1:53.4 winner in the $31,690 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Harrington Raceway.
Montrell Teague placed the six-year-old Sportswriter-Luxardo mare in the pocket behind Grandeur Seelster (Mike Cole) through fractions of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:24.2. The first-over Lofty Treasure (Brandon Givens) took over from the pacesetter in the stretch, but Beca Mitchell chased her down to win by a neck. Jett Propelled (Jason Thompson) closed for third.
Beca Mitchell notched her fifth win of the season in 27 outings for owner-trainer Andrew Glassmeyer. She is now 22-for-117 lifetime. The win price was $6.20.
In the second race, John Pyott’s seven-year-old Dream Away-Miss Behave mare Miss B Dreamin ($8.60) earned her maiden win in her 58th start with a 1:58.3 effort. Mike Cole guided the mare wide in mid-stretch where she was full of pace and surged to the lead for her first career score.
With one night remaining in the meet, the race for leading trainer remains a close one. Chuck Crissman Jr., who doubled on Tuesday, has a two-win lead over reigning champ Joe Columbo, who had one win.
Drivers Brandon Givens and Art Stafford Jr. each had three wins on the 15-race card.
The final night of racing for Harrington’s 80th-anniversary season is Wednesday. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
