Bettor On Than Off, Bet The Game Stay Hot At Truro

Bettor On Than Off winning at Truro Raceway

Bettor On Than Off, a mainstay in the Winners Over Handicap Pace at Truro Raceway all season, dominated his rivals on Sunday, Oct. 18, while sophomore pacer Bet The Game continued his hot streak during the afternoon card.

Driven by Robert Laffin out of post two in the $2,500 feature, Bettor On Than Off cleared pylon starter Good Friday Three (Jeff Ellis) into a :27.3 opening panel then cruised through middle splits of :55.4 and 1:25.1 all alone on the lead en route to the 1:54 victory. He won by 1-1/4 lengths over 4-5 co-favourite Bronx Drifter (Keith Legge), who had looped into the pocket heading into the backstretch the final time and chased in vain the rest of the way. Last week's upset winner Fifth Estate (Ernie Laffin) was third-best in the strung-out field of five.

Bettor On Than Off has won two of three starts in Truro's top class this month and now sports a seasonal summary reading 9-2-2 in 16 outings for owner/trainer Danny Romo of Shubenacadie, N.S. The seven-year-old Bettors Delight-Lights Go Out gelding has won a total of 25 times in his career.

Three-year-old gelding Bet The Game extended his Truro win streak to five with a 1:58.3 score as he stepped up a notch to a $1,800 conditioned pace for trainer/driver Darren Crowe and owners Kevin Harvey of Halifax, N.S., Charles Bowlin of Grand Barachois, N.B. and Rudge Racing of Dartmouth, N.S.

The homebred son of All Bets Off-Back In The Game, who made just two starts as a freshman, is now five-for-10 in his career.

Maneuvering out from the pocket third-over, Bet The Game closed four-wide into the stretch to defeat the 1-5 favoured veteran pacer, Privilege (Keith Legge), who battled back for second after being headed in the final turn by first-up challenger Justa Country Boy (Carey Romeo).
