Tetrick Scoops Six, Wins Philly Feature

Benjamin Hanover

After racing stakes horses for most of the last two months, driver Tim Tetrick participated in the Thursday, Oct. 15 card at Harrah’s Philadelphia and won six of the 14 races, including the $22,857 Winners Over Trot.

Tetrick was successful behind the Sebastian K S-By A Neck Hanover gelding Benjamin Hanover in the feature, clocking the mile in 1:51.2 in the 1-3/4-length triumph. Atypically off the board in his last five starts (some against the very top horses), Benjamin Hanover was spotted third by Tetrick, waited as favoured Abruzzo (Simon Allard) put up splits of :27 and :55.2, then came outside uncovered going towards the 1:23.1 three-quarters. The winner put in back numbers of :55.2 - :27.3 to go right on by the leader and defeat Little Expensive (Tyler Miller), who was on his bumper most of the way. Abruzzo finished third.

Benjamin Hanover ran his career numbers to 79-37-9-5 and $545,747 in earnings. The six-year-old races for trainer Scott Di Domenico and owner Angela Cornell. He paid $4.40 to win.

Tetrick also won with Lady Tessie Marie ($3.60), Swan So Fine ($3), Who I Am As ($11.20), Fun And Games ($2.80) and Sensational ($3). The sextet enabled him to open more of a lead at the top of the sulky standings as he pursues his sixth straight Philly crown. He has 113 local victories this year, putting him 12 ahead of second-placed Simon Allard.

The four-year-old Tactical Landing-Precious Fashion mare Luna Landing won for the fifth time in succession in a $19,286 conditioned trot for five-year-olds and younger. She was in the pocket to the quarter in :27.3, shuffled to third by the half in :56.4, then powered up first-over through three-quarters in 1:24.4 and held off heavy chalk Trillion Times (Simon Allard) by 1-1/4 lengths in a lifetime-best 1:53.2. Chaprow (Brad Chisholm) was third. The streaking distaff was driven by trainer Francisco Del Cid for Dumain Haven Farm LLC in her 10th career win in 33 starts. She paid $26 to win.

There were three splits of the $17,143 class for developing diamondgaiters, with the fastest winner Bricco ($4) taking his second straight win in 1:55.1 on the engine for driver Mark Herschberger, trainer Andrew Harris and owner Punisher 11 Stable LLC. Bricco’s first 21 career starts offered one win and some promise, but the Gimpanzee-Sigilwig sophomore gelding (a half-brother to millionaire Sig Sauer) seems to be putting it all together now.

A new mark was posted in the other two divisions. The Captain Corey-Womanofdistinction sophomore miss Lady Tessie Marie ($3.60) scored in 1:55.2 for the Tetrick/Di Domenico/Cornell connections, this one also owned by Tessie Esry. She is now three-for-25.

The Chapter Seven-Heaven three-year-old gelding Vinyl Daddy ($7.20) took his second win in 17 outings with a 1:55.4 victory. Corey Callahan drove him for trainer Robert Baggitt Jr., who shares ownership with Christine Baggitt and J L Sadowsky LLC.

Corey Callahan won three times, while two wins were notched by Mark Herschberger and Trae Porter, who dead-heated in the fifth race. Scott Di Domenico and Andrew Harris had training doubles.

Friday’s 12:25 p.m. card at Philly is topped by the distaff pacers, with competition for both the fast-class and the up-and-coming groups. On Sunday, Philly will have female drivers fill the gate in two races in support of the Pink-Out movement, promoting curing of and information about breast cancer.
