Trot Insider has learned that owner J. Ronald 'Ron' Burgess passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20 with his family at his side at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital

. Burgess, who was born in Fredericton, NB, was 90.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dora Burgess (Milner) and his children, Karin Ratcliff (Keith) of Georgetown, Ontario, Brian Burgess (Bernadette) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as well as Mary Ellen Wilson (Russell) and John Burgess (Judy) all of Fredericton; his grandchildren, Karoline, Stephanie and Jonathan (Jessica) Ratcliff, Jill (Michael Snow), Pam (Karl Achenbach), Kate Burgess, Janice (Anthony Bellis), Lisa (Kevin Larlee), Amy (David Palmer), Jerad (Candice) Jonsson, as well as Ronnie, Stephen and Abby Burgess; 12 great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Kay Burgess of Fredericton and Doris Burgess of Ottawa, Ont.; his nephew, Scott Burgess (Leona) of Fredericton and his cousins, Robert Burgess of Campbellville, Ont. and Richard Burgess of Peterborough, Ont.

A life-long resident of Fredericton, Ron was a chartered accountant by profession. He was a great supporter of his family, his community and harness racing. Ron was a longtime racehorse owner and is a member of the Fredericton Raceway Hall of Fame within the Builder category.

Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St. on Wednesday, May 23 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating.

A private interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Ron’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at the bottom of this notice or at mcadamsfh.com.
