Gts Asher stretched his winning streak to five while handling a rise in class with a victory in the co-featured $7,800 optional-claiming pace on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Century Mile.

Mike Hennessy pushed the gelding from post four to reach the front on the first turn and lead to the quarter in :28.3, then provided his charge a big second-panel respite to a 1:00 half. Whiplash Smile (Phil Giesbrecht) arriving first-over from fourth forced a spike in speed from Gts Asher, who paced to three-quarters in 1:28.3, then cranked out a :28 closing quarter to kick clear of his pursuers by two lengths for the 1:56.3 victory. Whiplash Smile finished second over a closing Alien Art Form (Ryan Grundy).

Gts Asher has won five straight races after failing to find the winner’s circle throughout the Century Downs meet and is now eight-for-27 on the year. The five-year-old Santanna Blue Chip-Gts Lady Katy gelding, trained by Christopher Stranaghan for Susan Johnston of Cochrane, Alta., has won 10 times from 53 career starts and earned $65,251. He paid $4.80 as the 7-5 second choice.
