Daringly Sets Harrington Record In DSBF Final
Daringly dashed to a track-record victory in the $157,143 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) final for two-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Harrington Raceway, as the finals for freshman trotters wrapped up a week of stakes action as the track’s 80th anniversary season winds down.
Daringly front-stepped to the 1:57 score to knock two seconds off the previous divisional record set a week ago by Vamoose, who finished second on Wednesday. Driven by Corey Callahan, Daringly put up panels of :29, :58.3 and 1:28 on a loose lead and held off Vamoose (Eddie Dennis) by 1-1/4 lengths. Franchesca (Russell Foster) was third.
Ron Burke trains Daringly, a daughter of Southwind Frank-Dark Mirage who is now four-for-eight lifetime. She is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The win price was $6.80.
Mike Franks was a 1:58 winner in the $157,143 DSBF final for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings. The speedy gelding was away third to the quarter in :29 for Ross Wolfenden, then grinded first-up through :59 and 1:28 middle panels before pulling ahead on the last turn and away to victory by 2-3/4 lengths. Lebanon Levii (Eddie Dennis) closed for place, followed by Youcancallmeroy (Roger Plante Jr.).
Mike Franks earned his fourth career win in seven outings for trainer John Wilkerson and owners Mike and Linda English. The son of Southwind Frank-Hearditinaluvsong paid $5.80 to win.
Offspring of Yankee Royalty got their first career wins in the $28,571 DSBF consolation events. Italian Royalty ($21.60, Justin Vincent) was a 2:01.3 winner in the consolation for rookie male trotters over Frosty Fran (Allan Davis) and Royalty Counts (Montrell Teague). Italian Royalty is trained by owner Robin Callahan.
One race later, in the filly trot consolation, Whodathunkit Stable LLC's Diamond Advantage ($5, Jason Green) was a blowout winner over A Yankee Blast (Jason Thompson) and Savannahs Joy (Troy Beyer) in 2:01.4. Diamond Advantage is trained by Cliff Green.
In the overnight feature, the venerable Speed Away ($6.60) proved game off a first-up trip to prevail in 1:54.2 in the $32,143 Open Handicap Trot. Fourth through opening splits of :27.3 and :56.2 for Callahan, Speed Away made little headway to three-quarters in 1:25.1 but forged ahead in the stretch for the three-quarter-length victory. Dyladmar (Russell Foster) closed for place over Somebody Special (Brandon Givens).
Speed Away, an eight-year-old son of Father Patrick-All The Time, is now 34-for-126 lifetime. Nick Callahan has trained the gelding to 10 wins from 27 outings in 2026 for Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team.
Driver Callahan won races five through seven on the 15-race card.
