Seismic Step Rumbles Foes To Head Page Six-Pack
Heavily favoured Seismic Step received a confident drive from Chris Page and cruised to an open-length victory in the featured $26,429 featured conditioned trot, giving the reinsman one of six wins on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.
The eventual winner found himself in between Herecomescharlie B (Jeremy Smith) and Dans Credit (Luke Plano) during an early three-wide skirmish for the lead. Dans Credit stuck a head in front but jumped off stride, giving the lead to Seismic Step approaching the first station in :27.1. The 1-5 bettors’ choice got the benefit of a docile group of rivals to snag a :29.1 second-quarter breather to the half in :56.2.
Seismic Step opened up at the three-quarters in 1:24.1 and coasted to a 4-3/4-length win in 1:53.4. The pocket-sitting Herecomescharlie B was second, and Forceful Power (Hugh Beatty) came up the passing lane to nab third.
The winning Chapter Seven-Stirling Debutant four-year-old now has two wins and two seconds in four starts since joining the Michael Hitchcock barn for William A. Hartt, who purchased the gelding in mid-September. Seismic Step's Tuesday win was his seventh lifetime in 40 career starts. He paid $2.40 to win.
Besides the feature, Page scored with Just Foolin Around (1:54.3, $2.60), Smokeitsteady (1:57, $7.40), Mandaloun (1:53.3, $5.60), Mooter Tooter (1:54.4, $11.20) and Street Beats (1:52.3, $4). Page, the third-winningest driver in North America this season, has racked up 453 wins from 2,429 starts.
In the $20,714 conditioned pace, the Indiana invader Ritas Girl ($15.40) scored in a lifetime-best 1:54.4 for driver Kevin Detwiler. The pacesetting Stormy (Austin Hanners) was 1-1/4 lengths behind the three-year-old Highalator-Rita J filly in second. Taylorsseconddance (Jason Beattie) completed the triactor. Detwiler is an up-and-coming Hoosier reinsman. The 18-year-old from Milroy, Ind. currently has a .420 UDRS and 115 seasonal wins. Ritas Girl is conditioned by Joseph Wagler for Ernest Wagler.
Kayne Kauffman drove two winners on the card.
Racing action resumes on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. first post.
