Poised off a perfect pocket trip, Vintage Lass proved best in the $17,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace at Desert Park on Monday (Oct. 12) with driver Brandon Campbell in the bike for trainer Cody Easton.

Vintage Lass tucked into the pocket off the wings while the 3-2 favourite, Grey Sea (John Abbott), took the quintet to the opening quarter in :27.4. The field raced single-file to the half in :57.4 before Vintage Lass was out from the pocket and on the attack, moving alongside the leader as the pair hit three-quarters in 1:26.4.

The mares raced in lock-step around the final turn, before Vintage Lass grabbed a narrow advantage at the head of the lane. Pacing her last quarter in :28.4, Vintage Lass got the better of a game Grey Sea by a length on the wire in 1:56. Avas Angel Baby (Scott Knight) rallied down the middle of the track to get up for third.

Vintage Lass has now won back-to-back at Desert Park and three of 23 on the season. Owned by her trainer, Cody Easton of Langley, B.C., the five-year-old daughter of Vintage Master-Judys Lass has banked $99,871 lifetime following her eighth career victory. Vintage Lass paid $9.90 for the victory.
