Alan Dominant In Batavia Feature

Alan

The 10-year-old gelding Alan scored a second straight dominant victory since entering the barn of Megan Wilson as he captured the $11,429 conditioned feature at Batavia Downs on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Alan, driven by John Cummings Jr., went to the front and extended his lead at each station while rattling off :29.4, 1:00 and 1:28.1 fractions. With a two-length lead at three-quarters, Alan rounded the final bend and pulled clear by 2-3/4 lengths to prevail in 1:57.4. Infinity Stone (Chase Russo) finished second off a pocket ride, with Nottingham (Kyle Cummings) third.

The win was the 38th lifetime in 220 starts for Alan ($2.94), and it pushed his career earnings to $275,318. Wilson owns the son of Dontyouforgetit-Betty Jean.

Drew Monti was the leading driver again on Thursday, posting a grand slam during the nine races held on the day.

He won with another seasoned horse, Silverhill Blaze, who at 14 years old is still winning at a high clip. Silverhill Blaze sat fourth past the half before pulling first-over in chase of Sombodyitreasure (John Cummings Jr.). Silverhill Blaze took the lead passing three-quarters, cleared in the turn and then paced home ahead by a length in 1:58.1 to score his third consecutive win. Silverhill Blaze ($3.68), a son of Mach Three-Southwind Miranda, is now 64-for-432 lifetime with earnings of  $549,856. The venerable gelding is trained by Andrew Torre, who shares ownership with Kristen Torre.

Monti’s other three wins came from Ideal Perfect Ten (1:56.4, $7.72), Viva Las Vegas N (1:56.3, $8.78) and Talkflirtytome (1:58.1, $4.58). Monti now has 85 wins at the meet and is the leading driver at Batavia, holding a 36-win cushion over the second-placed driver, Brett MacDonald (49 wins).

The final two races of the evening were cancelled due to a lighting malfunction, and a decision regarding upcoming post times will be made on Friday morning, once more information about the necessary repairs and the timeline needed for completion becomes available.

Live racing is scheduled to resume at Batavia Downs on Saturday at 5 p.m., though subject to change. There is set to be a $13,800 carryover in the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the 10th race.
