Foxy Hill Uncatchable In Dayton Open
Foxy Hill and Luke Hanners survived and early three-wide tussle and later cruised to a 2-1/2-length score in the $42,857 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Thursday, Oct. 8 at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.
Away from post six, Foxy Hill found herself in an early battle with Alwaysbpuffing Ir (Chris Page) and Overthemoonforyou (Trevor Smith), starting from posts four and one, respectively. She didn’t clear to the lead until after the opening panel in :26.1. The top three, with Overthemoonforyou in the pocket and Alwaysbpuffing Ir in third, remained unchanged at the half-mile station in :54.4.
Anna Love N (Brett Miller) was the first to challenge the leaders from mid-pack and was second on the outside, providing cover for Naked On A Hill (Travis Seekman) at the three-quarters in 1:22. Foxy Hill then used a :28 final panel to close the deal in 1:52. Alwaysbpuffing Ir, who was shuffled back to fifth, rallied to edge out Anna Love N for the place spot.
The winning five-year-old Captaintreacherous-My Little Delight mare is owned by Odds On Racing and trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. Foxy Hill has won three of her last four starts and is seven-for-20 on the season. The win price was $5.40.
In the $28,571 conditioned claiming pace for fillies and mares, Sadhaka N (Luke Hanners) and Reallyrukiddingme (Austin Hanners) battled down the lane, with the charge of the younger Hanners brother, Luke, crossing the line a neck ahead of Austin's in 1:51.3. The win was short lived, as the judges determined that the Sadhaka N drifted out in the lane and impeded the progress of Reallyrukiddingme and was thus placed second. Trsshining Star (Brett Miller) used a three-wide move around the final turn to secure the show spot. Dan Venier bred, owns and trains the four-year-old Racing Hill-Brillo Camarillo mare, who has put together a three-race win streak.
The win was one of three victories on the 14-race card for Austin Hanners.
Racing at Dayton Raceway resumes on Friday with a 14-race card. First post is at 4 p.m.
