Rambaran Passes

Rambaran

The connections of Rambaran have reported the passing of the retired stallion at Jeff Lilley’s Farm in Dutton, Ont., after a brief illness at the age of 32 years.

A homebred son of Western Hanover out of the Abercrombie mare Idylwood Bonnie, Rambaran was raised by Dr. Peter Johnston and his wife Judie, and later owned with his son Paul and Craig Watkins of Newcastle, Ont. Driven skillfully by Ron Waples and Tony Kerwood mostly during his career, Rambaran amassed 38 wins and more than $1.16 million in career earnings and a record of 1:50.2s taken at Woodbine Racetrack.

Rambaran held the track record at both Mohawk Racetrack and Hazel Park during his career. His major victories included the Motor City Pace at Hazel Park Raceway and the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship at Pocono Downs as a three-year-old, as well as the Nicole Hudock at Hazel Park and several Free-For-All races at Woodbine as an aged horse.

He was a successful stallion standing at Mac Lilley Farms in Ontario for many years after racing, siring the winners of more than $36.9 million in earnings, including millionaire Ramegade Bruiser, as well as 117 $100,000 winners and seven $500,000 winners.

"Special thank you to the Lilley family for taking good care of 'Busher' after his career and during his time in the breeding shed, and to all the breeders who chose to breed to him, as well as all the owners who enjoyed his offspring," said Paul Johnston on behalf of the Johnston, Watkins and Lilley families. "He was such a good horse, provided a laugh on many occasions, and allowed so many opportunities for us while making cherished memories for many. He was always a joy to be around. May he rest in peace."

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Rambaran.
