Vamoose Skedaddles To Harrington Track Record
Vamoose broke her own Harrington Raceway track record with a 1:59 triumph in one of five $28,571 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) divisions for two-year-old trotters Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The Anders Bluestone-Furiette filly put up the fractions of :30.3, 1:00.2 and 1:30.2 and held off pocket-sitter Daringly (Corey Callahan) by 1-1/2 lengths in the first filly split. Franchesca (Russell Foster) was 25-1/2 lengths away in third. Vamoose sliced a fifth of a second off her previous mark, which she took in her Sept. 9 debut and equalled last week.
The winning filly is now unbeaten in four career starts for trainer/driver Eddie Dennis. Vamoose is owned by Rodney Wyatt, Kevin Peck and E&K Stable Inc. The win price was $2.40.
In the first DSBF split for males, the same connections prevailed with Amish Outlaw ($2.40), who assumed command near the three-quarters and drew away from the field for a 4-1/4-length win in 2:02.2. Lets Roll Nerds (Allan Davis) finished second, followed by Italian Royalty (Justin Vincent). The winning E L Platinum-Haileysgonedancing gelding recorded his second career triumph in four starts.
The next division for colts and geldings went to Michial and Linda English’s Mike Franks ($3.60) in 2:00.2. Ross Wolfenden piloted him to the two-length score over Platinum Ice (Troy Beyer), with Lebanon Levii (Dennis) third. The John Wilkerson-trained son of Southwind Frank-Hearditinaluvsong was a front-end winner as he completed a DSBF elim sweep and improved to three-for-six.
One race later, in the second filly contest, Leap Year ($6) was a 2:00.4 winner in blowout fashion for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The Southwind Frank-Expose Yourself filly led most of the way for driver Jason Thompson and trainer Ron Burke and picked up her first career win in six outings in a 7-1/4-length romp over She Is Unstoppable (Allan Davis). Dassie (Russell Foster) was third.
The final division on the card was for colts and geldings, and heavily favoured Blazing Tui ($2.10) didn’t disappoint. In line to Corey Callahan, the Yankee Royalty-Tui gelding notched his fourth straight win and remained unbeaten with a 1:59.2 victory by 2-1/2 lengths over Youcancallmeroy (Roger Plante Jr.), with Frosty Frank (Allan Davis) third. David Wiest trains the gelding and shares ownership with Don Wiest.
The DSBF trotting finals will take place on Oct. 14. The top eight point earners from the two elimination legs will return to compete in the $110,000 USD finals for each division.
In the overnight feature, the $32,143 Open Handicap Trot, Arrowhead Hanover ($5.20) was a 1:55 winner by four lengths over Dyladmar (Russell Foster) for driver Troy Beyer. Speed Away (Corey Callahan) completed the top three. Trained by Dan Munson, the winning four-year-old son of International Moni-Aarena Hanover took his seventh win of the year in 30 starts for Thestable Arrowheadhanovr.
Dennis and Beyer each had three driving wins on the 15-race program.
